Knowledge is power, so be empowered

In the past week I have been forced to research; learn and know more about Cervical Cancer. I was recently told by my gynae that my last pap smear test showed traces of Pre Cancer cells or HPV. I now know the meaning behind what my mom always tells me "to whom much is given much is expected". I am coping well, I am a fighter and I know that I will do whatever it takes to beat this. There’s a lot I didn’t know about cervical cancer and how to protect my cervical health, which inspired me to take action and rally other young women to join the cause, as young women, we should feel empowered to take care of our cervical health.

In recognition of the Cervical Health I have decided to do my own Awareness Campaign, whereby I will inform and educated as many young women as I can reach about the importance of doing a pap smear tests annually. I call my campaign "We Don’t Know Enough About Cervical Cancer”.

Cervical cancer is the most common cancer in South African women. It is a little-known yet disquieting fact that more women develop and die of cervical cancer than any other type of cancer in South Africa.

The aim of the campaign will be to raise awareness of cervical cancer and motivate young women to talk to their healthcare professional about how to protect their cervical health now and for the future.

Worldwide a woman dies of cervical cancer every two minutes. In South Africa each year approximately 6 700 women will develop cervical cancer while an estimated 3 700 will die from it. A woman’s risk of developing cervical cancer in her lifetime is one in 20 in South Africa. We shouldn’t have to suffer from cervical cancer when there are things we can do to prevent this disease, knowledge is power.

On a note of weight shedding I am another 3kgs lighter. How does Mc Donald say it? "lalalalala I'm loving it!!!"
